TO ABRAXAS YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES
Residential Programs
Our residential programs are designed to offer specialized
treatment options for youth, adults and families as well as to promote
educational advancement, community service opportunities, and employment
initiatives. We operate both open and secure care programs for specialized
populations including substance abusers, drug sellers, sex offenders,
and firesetters.
Behavioral Health
The Abraxas behavioral
health facilities provide a highly structured yet nurturing environment
to facilitate the recovery and personal growth of youth who suffer
from serious mental and behavioral disorders. Therapeutic and educational
services are provided in accordance with the CASSP Principles that
treatment be strength-based, client-centered, family-focused, multi-system,
and culturally competent. Abraxas utilizes the expertise of master’s
level therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and certified
teachers to provide a multi-disciplinary team approach which includes
assessment, treatment planning, and intervention strategies.

Behavioral Modification
The Abraxas
philosophy of treatment is to teach clients to modify their behavior
and alter their cognitive processes associated with offending. Clients
are taught to be accountable for their actions and recognize the
consequences for inappropriate behavior. Programs place a strong
emphasis on teaching clients to improve their social skills and maintain
awareness of their irresponsible behavior patterns. Abraxas programs
focus on behavioral and cognitive treatment modalities, building
meaningful relationships, and provide a safe environment that encourages
long-term change.

Substance Abuse
The Abraxas drug and alcohol programs provide a comprehensive
approach to chemical dependency treatment that is designed to impact
clients in the interrelated areas of substance use/abuse, socialization,
education/vocation, family, and delinquency/criminality. The goal of
treatment is to eliminate drug use/abuse and delinquency and develop
behaviors that are socially responsible. Clients participate in a variety
of therapeutically structured activities including individual, group
and family counseling, clinical study, prevention, life-skills education,
recreation, and volunteering in the local community. Cognitive behavioral
therapy is our core approach.

Firesetters and Sexual
Offenders
Abraxas has developed structured and effective specialty treatment
programs targeting juvenile firesetters and sexual offenders. Without
adequate intervention, both behaviors are likely to become increasingly
severe. A compelling body of research suggests that specialized intervention
can deter these early injurious behaviors and establish a more positive
life course.

Detention/Shelter
Abraxas shelters and detention centers offer high quality, short-term
care that includes counseling and educational services to provide stability
for youth in crisis. Our detention and shelter services focus on short-term
development activities which are designed to assist residents in transitioning
into a treatment program.

Community-Based
/ Outpatient Programs
It is the goal of the Abraxas community–based / outpatient programs
to provide services that meet the needs of our juvenile and adult clients
in their communities. Services vary by site and include work readiness
training, supervision and monitoring, methadone maintenance, family reintegration
and individual and group counseling. We work as partners with referring
agencies to provide the best care possible in the context of each client's
home community.

Education Services
Through our educational services we strive to assist students in addressing
behavioral, academic and attendance issues that prevent them from being
successful in the traditional classroom setting. The goal of the Abraxas
Youth & Family Services educational programs is to help students develop
the skills necessary to be successfully reintegrated into a mainstream
educational environment.
