Client Profile / Admissions Criteria
- Delinquent males, between the ages of 12-18, with a history of sexual offending or a history of multiple placements and/or violence.
- An IQ of 70 or above (will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis).

Located off Pennsylvania Turnpike exit 298 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, Abraxas Academy is currently licensed for 28 sexual offender beds and 54 habitual offender beds. Abraxas Academy uses a comprehensive approach in providing treatment services to residents. The program milieu and curriculum utilize the principles of BARJ, Choice Theory, Aggression Replacement Training, Applied Behavioral Analysis, and a cognitive distortions component. Treatment emphasis is placed on identifying and correcting potentially harmful patterns of thought, improving social skills, developing an awareness of the community and victim, and altering maladaptive behaviors. Abraxas Academy is also a licensed private school for grades 7 through 12. Residents can earn credits toward graduation or prepare for the GED.
Frequently Asked Questions
What items am I permitted to bring? The facility provides all necessary clothing, hygiene products, and religious materials. Nothing may be brought into the building during visits.
Who can visit me and when? Pre-approved immediate family members/guardians may visit once every two weeks. All visits are pre-arranged with the client's primary counselor.
Can I earn home passes? Due to the fact that it is a secure program, all home passes must be initiated by The Court.
Can I make phone calls, and whom can I call? Yes, one 5 minute approved contact can be made each week. Residents will receive additional time based on status. Staff will administer all phone calls.
Can I send and receive mail? Yes, letter writing is encouraged, and our facility will provide all necessary materials including envelopes and postage. Seven letters may be mailed each week; no limit on incoming mail. Residents are required to open incoming mail in the presence of a staff member for security purposes.
Can I earn my high school diploma or GED? Yes, we provide educational services on-site year round and students are able to earn their diploma while at the Academy. We offer credits that are transferable to your home school, Special Education classes, and GED preparation and exams.
Will I have the opportunity to do community service? Yes, community service opportunities can be performed on-site at Abraxas Academy. Individual arrangements will be made for residents needing to pay restitution or perform court ordered community service.
Can I get a job on or off program grounds? No, we do not have any job opportunities at this time.
Will my family be involved in my treatment? Yes, family involvement is strongly encouraged and is an integral part of treatment and reintegration. Families are also encouraged to participate in their child's Treatment Planning conference and monthly reviews.
Will you provide transportation to the program once I am committed? Transportation may be provided based on individual family needs.
