Client Profile/Admissions Criteria
- Provides services to both delinquent and dependent males and females, ages 12 to 18, who are residents of Dauphin or Cumberland Counties.
- Clients must be able to be maintained in the community and amenable to treatment.
- Clients may not have a history of firesetting, extensive drug and alcohol issues, or psychological issues.

As part of the program, clients will attend the Abraxas Student Academy II, located on-site. Individualized curriculums will focus on character building, drug and alcohol issues, family/relationship building, thinking errors, decision making, victim awareness, future planning and re-entry into the public school system. In addition, there is a large focus on community service that involves giving back to the community through experiences that involve the youth in learning both social and life skills. Youth also have the opportunity to obtain employment in effort to pay their restitution.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the criteria for admission? Clients must be court ordered with a suspended commitment to a residential facility after being referred by Dauphin County or Cumberland County Juvenile Probation or Cumberland County Children and Youth. Appropriate clients have a minimum I.Q. of 80 and are not a threat to themselves, their family, or the community.
What is the length of the program? The length of service ranges from 4 to 9 months and is determined by the client and his/her positive progress.
What are the program hours? The program operates from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM Monday through Friday and from 8 AM to 4PM on Saturdays.
Is transportation provided? Yes, transportation is provided to and from the program.
Can I get a job? Yes, clients are able to earn employment as they progress through the program. It is our goal that clients of proper age get a job. What services are provided? We provide the clients with a myriad of services. Clients are assigned to a counselor who will meet with them and their family to develop a treatment plan and goals for their success in the program. The client will be involved individual sessions with the counselor as well as family conferences to discuss progress. The client will also be involved in clinical groups that include anger management, goal setting, employment, budgeting, peer pressure, drug and alcohol issues and family issues.
What do the clients do on Saturdays? Saturday sessions involve two components. Clinical groups are conducted in the morning and community service and other activities are conducted in the afternoon. What do the clients do during the summer? Clients attend school year round. The program is closed only on Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Day. During the summer months, clients attend school but also have the opportunity to get involved in community service projects.
